Happy 8 Months Nelia! February 25th, 2010
Dear Nelly Bean,
Happy 8 months baby girl! I know I have said it before and I will say it again - time is moving way too quickly!!! It honestly seems like just last week I was taking your 7 month pictures. I suppose part of the reason time is moving so quickly is because we have been staying very busy. Staying busy is what is helping your mama get through the days and the weeks. Well, and of course your sweet smile and the way you make me laugh all day long. Not having Uncle Brent here has been extremely hard on all of us, but we spend quite a bit of time each day remembering him and talking about him. We miss him so much!
Today you are sharing your 8 month birthday with your Grandpa! How fun! We are having him over for dinner and cake tonight. I will be sure to take lots of pictures:)
You are finally getting your first tooth! We can feel it and we can even hear it when we clank a spoon against it, but we can't quite see it yet. In the meantime we are savoring all those gummy smiles:) You don't seem too affected by teething - perhaps a bit fussier at times and not sleeping as well other times, but we aren't complaining. You are such a sweet, happy girl!
Unfortunately you got your first cold this month, which I suppose was to be expected since you were around so many people over the last few weeks. It was sad listening to your little cough and wiping your nose all day long, but you were actually in really good spirits. You were in such good spirits that I didn't even think you were sick at first and we went on a playdate (and consequently got your friends sick - sooo sorry Addison and Sophie). We set up the humidifier in your room, stayed home and rested, and you were better within a week. Thank goodness!
When you were sick we took you to the doctor, just to be on the safe side. Plus, it was the first time you have been sick so we were a little bit nervous. You weighed 18lbs, 5oz - such a big girl! You are still wearing a size 3 diaper and 6-12 month clothes. You are nursing 5-6 times a day and you have one 6oz bottle of formula a day. You eat solids twice a day, but you always prefer milk. Your favorite solids are applesauce, prunes, butternut squash, and carrots. We introduced cottage cheese to you a few days ago and that didn't go so well. You were gagging like crazy:) You love the mesh feeders - you especially love when we put ice cubes in it. I bet it feels good on your gums. You really like to drink water out of a cup with my help, but you haven't figured out how to use the sippy cup yet.
You are still sleeping from about 7:30-6:00 every day and taking three naps, although the third nap is very inconsistent. You definitely need it, but you don't always like taking it. Your naps are also very unpredictable - sometimes you will sleep for 30 minutes and other times you will sleep for 2 hours. We still rock you to sleep, but you fall asleep fairly quickly.
Swimming lessons have been a blast! The lesson itself isn't extremely helpful, but it is so fun being in the pool with you. You absolutely love the water!!!! You splash around like crazy and the water in your face doesn't bother you one bit. You have even started kicking in the water - it is super cute!!! Daddy was able to come to one of your lessons with us and he was so proud of you:)
You sit up very well now (we don't even have to surround you with pillows anymore). We can tell that you want to crawl so badly, but you haven't quite figured it out yet. In the meantime you just scoot around on your belly:)
You love to talk and we have even heard you say 'mama' and 'dada', but we still aren't quite sure if you are associating it with us. We are using baby sign language in the hopes that we will be able to communicate with you in that way - so far we are signing more, please, thank you, food, milk, and all done. You are also laughing tons now, which is so fun!
Story time at the library is one of our favorite weekly activities. We usually go with our friends Stephanie and Grace and last week Tamara and Aaron joined us. It has been discovered that you LOVE bubbles! The teacher brings out the bubbles and you love to watch them float in the air.
Last week we went to the zoo for your very first time with Nana. Many of the animals were hard for you to see, but you really enjoyed the fish, polar bears, walruses, and monkeys. You also rode your very first Merry-Go-Round twice - once with me and once with Nana. Also, speaking of animals, you met your very first horse. We went to Auntie Sarah's house and met Whiskey (pictures below). You were really interested in Whiskey. Oh, and you absolutely love Roary and Mona - they always make you smile. Roary likes you, but I think you still freak Mona out!
You still love the baby bjorn, although you are getting hard to carry that way. You also love being in the Kelty backpack. We can't wait to take you on hikes this summer! You love books - having them read to you and eating them:) Sadly you are outgrowing your Bumbo - we love that thing! We will be transitioning you to your highchair this week. You are still loving the jumperoo and the exersaucer has sparked your interest again.
We are so blessed to have you as our daughter - you bring us so much happiness:) We love you so much!!!
xoxo,
Your mama

Nelia pictures - 7 months, 4 weeks
A few weeks ago Nelia started dancing - it is the cutest thing ever! Whether it is music from a toy, music on the radio, or someone singing, she will dance. But her most favorite music to dance to is the music that daddy plays on his guitar. Her favorite song is Old McDonald Had a Farm. The girl can definitely move!
Patrick came to one of Nelia's swim lessons. As you can see in the picture, she has a blast! I think Patrick and I have just as much fun as she does too. It is so neat to see her enjoying the water.
Prunes = yummy, Cottage cheese = yucky!
Happy Birthday Grandpa!
Nelia's first trip to the zoo!
Last week (2/22/10) we went to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium with Nana. I wasn't sure if Nelia would be able to see many of the animals, but she ended up having a fabulous time! She loved the polar bears, walruses, fish, and ducks. As she gets older I bet she will love the zoo even more!
Arriving at the zoo - she is even waving at the camera:)
Checking out the monkeys
I put her in the baby bjorn and she had a blast! She was so happy and it was worth it even if my back was hurting afterwards:)
The fish were definitely a hit - so much that we are planning on taking her to the aquarium this weekend
The polar bears were really cool! They had just been fed so they were diving underwater to get their lunch.
The walrus definitely captured her attention - those things are huge and ugly!
Riding the merry-go-round for the first time
Holding her new monkey from the zoo. Nelia has so many monkeys so I hesitated buying her another monkey, but she thought this monkey was hilarious in the store. However, since we have been home the monkey freaks her out. Silly girl!

More Nelia! 7 months, 4 weeks
Last week Nelia got to meet her very first horse:) Auntie Sarah's parents have two horses and we got to meet Whiskey. Nelia was very interested in Whiskey - and I think Whiskey was just as interested, or scared, of her:)
I think we need to take Nelia to the zoo soon - she seems to really enjoy animals.
Nana came over yesterday (2/20) to play with Nelia and give me a little break. Thanks Nana! We spent lots of time outside since it was so sunny and beautiful! We figured why play inside the house when we can take all our toys outside. Nelia loved it!
Nelia has recently discovered her tongue, as in the last few days, and it is always sticking out. Silly girl! She is starting to get her very first tooth. I can feel it, but we can't really see it yet. I wonder if sticking her tongue out like that has anything to do with feeling her tooth.
Nelia with her soccer ball. I don't know if I ever mentioned it on here, but Patrick grew up loving and playing soccer. He is convinced that Nelia is going to be a little soccer player:) He found and ordered this ball for her as a Christmas gift. She really likes playing with it!
Nelia pictures! 7 months, 1-3 weeks
I am so behind in posting pictures of Nelia. We have been taking lots though! Most of these are from the last few weeks...
She loves eating the strings on my hoodies, nothing like soggy, wet strings. Uncle Brent always had on hoodie sweatshirts and never minded Nelia's slobber:)
Playdate with her boyfriend Ethan:) She finds him quite amusing
Babysitting Grace, which is always lots of fun!
My friend Sarah described this picture perfectly - it reminded her of naptime in preschool and the one kid who would always stay awake playing while the others tried sleeping:)

Valentine's Day pajamas on Valentine's Day. Of course Nelia had about four outfits for Valentine's Day, but would you expect anything less from me???:)
Having a heart-to-heart conversation with daddy
Playing with Auntie Sarah, who has been such a huge support since Brent's accident. We love her so much!
Wearing her Valentine's heart onesie from her BFF Olivia (thanks to her mommy for sewing it!)
Nelia wants to crawl so badly! She gets especially excited when she sees the cats. Mona has just started to be okay with her and will even get pretty close to her. Poor kitty doesn't know what is coming her way in another month or so when Nelia starts crawling:)
Playing with Grandpa
Last weekend we bought Nelia a few new toys, one of which is this 'punching bag' penguin that she loves:)
Having a conversation with all her friends:)
More to come, including pictures of Nelia with a horse and an afternoon with Nana.
